Surprise! Unexpected snowfall hits York

Just when you thought it was safe to ditch your wellies…

When the snow started falling, we checked three separate weather apps – and all of them were forecasting nothing more than light rain.

That followed yesterday’s Met Office amber warning for snow in Yorkshire which didn’t cover York, but has since been updated to include the city.

So it is fair to say that the heavy snow shower that coated York in white this morning (Thursday March 8) was unexpected.

If the new weather forecast is correct, we can expect the snow to turn to sleet to turn to rain – and then a drier afternoon.

Probably best though to simply look out of the window…
