It was an incident which brought a sour note to what had been a sweet afternoon for York City.
Most in the huge crowd of City fans at today’s match simply revelled in an epic performance which saw the home side beat the already-crowned National League champions Chesterfield.
But “a select number of supporters” trashed a bus.
The club issued a statement condemning those responsible after City had scored the 2-1 win in front of a crowd of 7,571.
It said: “York City strongly condemn the anti-social vandalism which has been shown towards a long standing club partner in York Pullman this afternoon.
“On an afternoon which had us all united, especially with such a result for our survival, a select number of supporters have let themselves and the club down by proceeding to trash a vehicle working to help get supporters to and from the game.
“York City will work with York Pullman to identify those involved.”
Fans gave a mixed reaction to the statement. Some asked whether it could have been opposition supporters who were responsible. Others demanded a “life time ban for every single one” of those involved.
