York will soon have a new food outlet in the city centre.
A branch of Sainsbury’s Local will be trading before the end of February.
Work to fit out the shop in the former French Connection store on Davygate is nearing completion.
It will be the tenth Sainsbury’s Local in York – other nearby branches are already trading on Bootham, Piccadilly and Micklegate.
This branch will include fresh food, a Costa Express coffee machine, alcohol, news stand and National Lottery ticket sales.
The building has been empty since 2019 when French Connection closed.
Sainsbury’s says the shop opening is creating 30 jobs.
It comes after the Co-op revealed plans to open a supermarket in Stonebow House.
