It’s time to throw off your beige slacks and discover your stylish inner-self at York Fashion Weekend.
OK, we know none of you actually own any slacks – beige or otherwise – because you are YorkMix readers and, therefore, extremely groovy indeed.
But, just in case you need the odd style pointer, here are a few events for you to try on.
Fashion village
Independent retailers and designers are the residents of this pop-up village in the Parliament Street marquee.
These include a number of stylish York businesses. Blossom And Belle creates “beautiful garments for the real woman who wants to look good and feel good” from their Nether Poppleton HQ.
Paper Doll is the independent clothing and lifestyle boutique – an Aladdin’s cave of unique fashion and accessories on Back Swinegate.
And Dringhouses-based Noodles Klobber makes fun and exclusive clothes for children.
Fashionable Friday
Let Burgins Perfumery take you on an olfactory journey at 12.30pm in the fragrant company of ten iconic perfumes, looking at (and sniffing out) their influence on fashion.
And before you ask, yes, there will be free samples available. (Also at 1.30pm on Saturday.)
If you’ve ever wondered what the benefits of a well-fitted bra might be, Georgina from Leia Lingerie will reveal all at 2.30pm. (Also at 1.30pm on Sunday.)
Hairdresser Paula Smith and make-up artist Julie Mercer, who team up regularly for weddings as Veil of York, come together at 3.30pm to demonstrate how an Airbase Airbrush makeover and a new hairstyle can give you a non-surgical face-lift.
Stylish Saturday
What’s your true style? Find out with an interactive workshop run by Seasons of York at 11.30am and 2.30pm with tips on colour, style and image-creation.
There’s also a scarf-tying demonstration, just in case you are currently completely baffled by the process.
And Blossom and Belle presents a fashion show of couture prom dresses and bridal wear at 4.30pm
Sophisticated Sunday
Life & Soul Clothing from Wetherby is staging a fashion show at 12.30pm, showcasing easy-to-wear clothes that make it easy to look good. (Also at 1.30pm on Friday and 12.30pm on Saturday.)
Experts from Browns beauty hall demonstrate the latest make-up products and techniques at 2.30pm. (Also at 4.30pm on Friday and 3.30pm on Saturday.)
