A new Christmas attraction has closed tonight (Thursday) due to the strong winds.
The organisers of Wharton’s Wonderland have taken the decision to shut and reopen when things have calmed down tomorrow.
Wharton’s Wonderland boasts a Christmas market, Santa’s grotto, ice rink, funfair, monster trucks and the Grinch, and opened this week at Rufforth Airfield East, to the west of York.
Organisers posted on social media this afternoon: “We have made the decision to close this evening as the wind isn’t slowing down and the public and children’s safety is more important to us as a company.
“We look forward to seeing you all on Friday.”
Anyone with pre-booked tickets can get in touch with the team to rearrange.
Meanwhile, Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland at the Designer Outlet has reopened its ice rink after it was closed during the afternoon “due to the unforeseen warm temperatures, wind and rain”.
It was shut between 1pm and 4.30pm, but skating resumed at 4.45pm.
