A stolen car driven at ‘excessive speeds’ through York crashed on a roundabout after being chased by police.
At 9.16pm on Friday (12 July) officers responded to a call that a red car that had been stolen from outside a house on Bellhouse Way.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Following enquiries, it was spotted by the Firearms Support Unit patrol at 11.01pm being driven erratically and at excessive speeds on Burton Stone Lane and Haxby Road.
“The vehicle failed to stop when the FSU officers activated the blue lights and sirens.
“However, it soon came to stop when it crashed on the roundabout of Haxby Road and Haley’s Terrace in the Clifton area of the city.”
At least three people ran from the car towards the Yearsley Swimming Pool car park.
Officers gave chase on foot and arrested them nearby, including one who was hiding under a parked car.
They were aged 20, 17, 17 and 16 and all male. They have been released on bail while enquiries continue.
“The owner of the car was informed about the arrests and the recovery of the vehicle,” the police spokesperson said.
