York is going green this weekend!
The annual St Patrick’s Festival is returning to St Sampson’s Square on Saturday 15 March, for a day of live music, Guinness, Irish dancing, and lots of fun.
Organised by the York Irish Association, this will be the tenth year of the much-loved festival in the city.
The York Irish Association was first formed in 2014 and aims to celebrate Irish culture and bring together the Irish community and those with an interest in all things Irish.
They run regular events and activities such as Irish music nights, culture nights, Irish history talks, a Gaelic football team, Irish language lessons – and of course the annual St Patrick’s festival!
The festivities will kick off from 11am in the marquee on St Sampson’s Square, with a performance from the St Aelred’s Irish Dance Group.
The schedule for the day is as follows:
- 11am – St Aelred’s Irish Dance Group
- 12pm – Folkestra
- 12:45pm – Declan Prior
- 1:15pm – Paula Ryan
- 2pm – O’Connor Academy of Irish Dance
- 3pm – Hyde Family Jam
- 4pm – Rastrum Ceilidh Band
- 5:30pm – Flying Donkeys
The Cyclist in York will also be manning the bar, so there’ll be no shortage of Guinness.
The event is free to attend, so simply turn up to enjoy the good craic.
The organisers are also calling out for volunteers on their social media channels to help on the day of the event to help with the stand and the day before (Friday) to assist with the setting up of the event. If you can lend a helping hand – contact the York Irish Association.
