Sam Collins is out as York City manager.
After another hugely disappointing away defeat at Curzon Ashton, Collins’ four-month period in charge came to an end.
The move was announced in a brief statement on the York City website:
-
Sam Collins has left his role as manager of York City Football Club with immediate effect.
Sporting Director Dave Penney will oversee training until a new manager is appointed.
The club’s board would like to thank Sam for his hard work and professionalism.
Short reign
Collins came to the club as youth team manager last July. He was previously the Professional Development Coach at League One club Bradford City.
After Martin Gray left in August, Collins became caretaker.
He was appointed to the full-time position in October after four wins from eight matches. But poor form has seen York City languishing in 15th place, half way between the relegation zone and the play-off places.
The 1-0 loss to Curzon Ashton – who hadn’t previously kept a clean sheet at home – was clearly the last straw for chairman Jason McGill and the board.
