Soon we’ll be able to enjoy a whole new view of York as this huge Ferris wheel is now being constructed in the city centre.
The finished wheel will be 33m (108ft) high and will open on Saturday (8 October) in St Sampson’s Square.
Open daily from 11am until 8pm until 30 October, the wheel comprises 24 gondolas including one VIP and one for people with disabilities.
Each gondola can hold up to six people. Visitors will enjoy several rotations to enable them to enjoy the spectacular views of the city.
It is brought to us by Events By Cynosure, the people behind the hugely popular Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta, which attracted 60,000 people to Knavesmire last month.
They say the wheel’s central position will offer people a unique view of some of York’s most well-known sights, including York Minster, the Guildhall, Clifford’s Tower, Shambles, the City Walls, Museum Gardens and the River Ouse.
John Lowery, chief operating officer of Events by Cynosure, said: “We are excited to be running this new attraction in the heart of York, and to give visitors and residents the opportunity to enjoy a very different perspective of the city.
“The views are stunning and will be particularly impressive with the autumn colours across the city at the moment, which we’re sure everyone who takes a ride will enjoy.”
Prices for the Ferris Wheel are £7 per adult and £5 for children.Tickets can be purchased from St Sampson’s Square, by cash or card payment.
