Forage on Little Stonegate announced on Facebook yesterday (15 August) that it had ceased trading.
The owners said that “a tough climate and rising costs have unfortunately meant we cannot keep trading”
With hundreds of positive reviews on TripAdvisor, their Facebook page was inundated with disappointed customers.
One read “Gutted for you guys, the place was absolutely amazing”.
Another visitor, from Scotland, said “Very sad to read this. You had a wonderful place there. A really special wee jewel in the heart of York. “
Forage opened in September 2021 and restaurant frontage was adorned with bright, decorative flower and foliage. Most of this has already been removed.
Inside everything has been just left and the website has been taken down.
The building was previously part of the Gusto restaurant chain, which closed in 2020.
Before that, it was The Dining Warehouse, part of iconic York retailer, Mulberry Hall.
