It’s the biggest game of the season – and it sold out in under two hours this afternoon (Monday).
York City are in the semi-final of the playoffs after finishing second in the National League.
That game will decide who gets to go to Wembley for the playoff final and a chance to win promotion back into the Football League.
Unsurprisingly. there was huge demand for the semi final tickets as they went on general sale at noon today, having being offered to season ticket holders first.
A long queue formed outside the ticket office at the LNER Community Stadium.
Fans could also secure their place on the phone or online via City’s ticketing website. Depite a queuing system, many supporters struggled to get in to book their tickets.
Many reported seeing an ‘error 503’ page after reaching the front of the queue, or the website crashing while they were trying to buy tickets.
These fans expressed their frustration online. Others put forward suggestions as to how the system could be made fairer for future big games.
“Going forward, you need a fair points system,” one City supporter wrote. “Then for high demand games, loyal non-season ticket holders who attend the most games should have the best chance of getting a ticket.”
Another man replied: “100% agree. Me and the boy have done every home game but one this season and was let down by the system.
“He’ll be gutted.”
Focus now turns to the Oldham vs Halifax game on Wednesday (14 May). The winner of that heat will go on to face York City on Tuesday, 20 May at 7.45pm.
