Spice Girl star Emma Bunton cancelled her York show 90 minutes before it began due to illness.
Although dismayed by the news many fans sent messages of support to the singer – although some were upset by the late notice.
Emma was due to perform at the York Barbican last night (Friday). Her Christmas Show was scheduled to start at 8pm.
At 6.27pm, the Barbican issued a statement from her management saying she couldn’t perform.
Emma herself took to Twitter to send this heartfelt apology:
She added: “I have never in my whole career ever had to cancel a gig and I can’t stop crying. I tried my hardest to make tonight happen.
“Thank you for all your beautiful messages of support.”
More information will be sent to ticket holders by email, her management said.
One fan had travelled 5½ hours from Essex to see the show “to an Airbnb where the boiler has broken – it’s really not my night”.
Another wrote: “So gutted! Spent a fortune on a hotel and got all dressed up, even though I’ve been ill all week, only for it to be cancelled when we got there.
“Communication could’ve been a lot better, not waiting til after the doors have opened. Very disappointed!”
At the show, according to the Barbican website, “Emma Bunton’s Christmas Party will see her performing songs from her own back catalogue as well as some classic Spice Girls tracks and all your favourite festive hits.”
She later cancelled her show at Birmingham tonight too, tweeting: “I feel like I have let so many of you down today & it has left me heartbroken.
“With rest & medication I wake every morning with hope. Birmingham I am here but unfortunately won’t be able to perform tonight under doctors orders.”
