Omigod you guys! Legally Blonde is coming to York next month.
York Light Opera Company are bringing the smash-hit musical comedy, based on the 2001 film of the same name starring Reese Witherspoon, to life this coming February.
Legally Blonde is at York Theatre Royal from Thursday 13 to Saturday 22 February 2025.
The fun and feel-good show that features a powerful message follows Elle Woods – a sorority girl with a heart of gold – as she tackles Harvard Law School to win back her man. Along the way Elle discovers her own strength and intelligence, proving that you can be beautiful, blonde and brilliant.
Martyn Knight, director, said, “We are so excited to bring this empowering and hilarious show to York.
“Our production will celebrate Legally Blonde‘s joy and energy while highlighting its important message of self-discovery and female empowerment.”
The show will star Emma Swainston as Elle Woods, who was recently seen as Sister Mary Leo in York Light Opera Company’s Nunsense. “I’m thrilled to be playing Elle Woods, it’s a dream role,” she said.
“Growing up I watched Reese Witherspoon play Elle in the original in the film on video, on repeat… and she’s such an icon. Elle is a really inspiring character and I can’t wait to share her journey with the audience.”
The 34-strong cast also includes Zander Fick as Emmett Forrest, Emily Hardy as Paulette Bonafonte, Neil Wood as Professor Callahan, Emily Rockliff as Vivienne Kensington, Helen Miller as Enid Hoopes and Pippa Elmes as Brooke Wyndham.
Legally Blonde features music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin, a book by Heather Hach, and is based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the MGM Motion Picture.
Tickets for Legally Blonde start from £15 and are available via the York Theatre Royal website.
