Due to lockdown, daily walks have become a part of most our schedules.
One of the things we can still do to support our local businesses is to pick up takeaway drinks whilst we’re out and about.
Here are six different places – in and out of the city centre.
The Little Yorkshire Coffee Company

Serving a selection of coffees and cakes, The Little Yorkshire Coffee Company is open every day from 9am on the Knavesmire section of York Racecourse.
This little classic Citroen HY van was originally a livestock truck. The Little Yorkshire company told YorkMix “we pride ourselves on using as many Yorkshire suppliers as possible”.
The coffee beans used are roasted in York, cakes baked in Pocklington and milk sourced from the Yorkshire Dales.
If you have a four-legged friend with you, they also sell doggy treats which you can pick up!
Coffee Culture

Located on Goodramgate, Coffee Culture is open seven days a week from 10am to 4pm.
Serving York Emporium coffee, a special blend is roasted just for this café. If you’re not fancying coffee, there’s a large selection of other drinks such as hot chocolate, tea, smoothies and milkshakes.
Coffee Culture told YorkMix: “We bake all our own cakes & scones with vegan options available too.”
The Dark Horse

Operating from a converted horsebox, The Dark Horse is located in Shambles Market.
Serving quality “Australian Style” coffee, this café also serves a selection on toasties served on bread locally sourced from Bluebird Bakery.
You can also pick up traditional Australian baked goods such as, Anzac biscuits and slices.
The Dark Horse told YorkMix: “We wanted to tie all of our loves and experiences together with our little business in our beautiful hometown and we just feel really lucky that we have achieved this and we are getting to do this on a daily basis.”
The Walnut Tree
Usually a traditional pub, The Walnut Tree has adapted to lockdown restrictions, becoming a coffee serving hub.

Popular with dog walkers and passers-by, this pub is serving hot drinks from ‘the Shack at the Back’ on weekends.
They’re open Friday 4pm to 8pm, Saturday 9am to 1pm and Sunday 12pm to 3pm.
If you’re fancying something more substantial, they’re also serving takeaway food including breakfast items, fish and chips and Sunday lunch.
52 Broadway Coffee Shop

Based in Fulford, 52 Broadway is open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 4pm.
Run by a mother and daughter, 52 Broadway serve local roasted coffee alongside a range of different hot and cold drinks, including milkshakes.
Their bespoke treats range from homemade cheesecakes to afternoon tea.
If you’re in the area and have a sweet tooth, it’s not a place to be missed.
North South

Based on Bootham, North South is currently open for takeaway on weekends from 9am to 3pm. This café offers a range of drinks including coffee, tea and hot chocolate.
When talking about their hot chocolates, North South told YorkMix: “we serve real chocolate flakes in our hot chocolates which come in white, milk, dark and ruby!”
When the world is running normally, this café turns into a bar at night, serving a range of cocktails and craft beers.
