Thursday’s performance at the Grand Opera House was cancelled after fire broke out at the theatre.
Fire crews from York, Acomb, Huntington and Selby went to the theatre after getting a call at 5.40pm.
The fire was contained in the stage area and is now out. There are no reports of any injuries.
It happened between matinee and evening performances so no audience members were in the theatre.
Shortly after 6pm the theatre posted on its Facebook page:

It added at about 10pm;: “Thanks for the kind and concerned comments. Everyone here is fine and we will be getting in touch with customers who were booked for tonight’s show.”
