A new initiative has been launched to boost York’s retailers.
Shop York is a joint project by the York BID (Business Improvement District) and Indie York.
It’s designed to support local shops by celebrating York’s high streets during a traditionally quieter time of year.
Shop York will feature a stamp card system, encouraging shoppers to explore the high street, support local businesses and earn the chance to win exciting prizes.
During the whole of February 2025, shoppers will be able to collect a Shop York passport and earn stickers, with each transaction above £5 earning customers one sticker for their passport.
Shoppers who collect five stickers from five different retailers can enter a prize draw, with the top prize being a £500 York Gift Card.
Participating businesses will be promoted through a Shop York website and a marketing campaign showcasing all participants.
Project manager at York BID Rachel Bean said: “York is incredibly lucky to be home to a wide variety of brilliant shops.
“This event is a celebration of that, and we hope it will provide vital support to businesses in the quieter months. This brand-new event is a brilliant opportunity for retail businesses to engage with and attract new and returning customers.”
Independent craft shop Fabrication has already signed up to take part, as well as Jewellery store Azendi.
Director of Azendi Lynsey Cooke said: “We are looking forward to being a part of this exciting new initiative to encourage York residents and visitors alike to enjoy the diverse mix of independent and big brand shopping that York has to offer.
“We really believe in the strength of the high street in York, and fully support the work Indie York and York BID are doing to encourage customers to enjoy York as a shopping destination.”
Shop York is open to retailers who are members of York BID or Indie York. For those who aren’t members yet, there’s still time to join.
Retailers must register by Monday (2 December) to be part of the scheme, via the York BID website.
York BID supports city centre businesses by enhancing the local environment and delivering projects that help York thrive.
Indie York highlights and promotes the city’s independent businesses through its website, social media, and a popular map, making it easy for residents and visitors to discover York’s unique local offerings.
