‘RIP Mrs Mac, we will never forget you’: Shock and sadness at sudden death of York headteacher
Tributes were paid today to an inspiring York school headteacher who has died suddenly.
Ann McKeown was head of Huntington Primary Academy. Parents at the school were contacted on Sunday and given the sad news.
The school is closed on Monday and Tuesday (July 18 and 19).
Paul Gething, chair of the school’s board of trustees, paid tribute to Ann.
He said:
As a highly respected educator, Ann was someone who inspired and enriched the lives of countless young people throughout this city and beyond.
She will be desperately missed and our thoughts are with her family and friends and all the pupils and staff at Huntington Primary Academy where she made such a massive contribution over many years.
Parent Louise Rhodes paid a heartfelt tribute Mrs McKeown.
She said: “Ann was so supportive to my family while I was been treated for breast cancer.
“She wrote to me often and called me evenings, weekends, during school holidays just to see how I was doing as well as making sure my daughter was always OK at school.”
Louise added:
My heart goes out to her family, staff at Huntington Primary, and her pupils. RIP Mrs Mac, we will never forget you.
