A soulful special is coming to York – in what will be the current Sheriff of York, Fiona Fitzpatrick’s, final hurrah.
Featuring some of York’s fantastic Soul DJs and hosted by the Sheriff, the night will be the final fundraising event of the current civic party.
Sheriff’s Soul Night will take place at The Crescent on Friday 23 May 2025.
Each year the civic party selects charities to support for their year in office. In 2024 – 2025, the right honourable Lord Mayor of York, Cllr Margaret Wells and The Sheriff of York, Fiona Fitzpatrick chose the Stroke Association, Survive, York RLFC Foundation, and the York City Football Club Foundation.
All DJ’s are donating their time and efforts towards the charities including, Nick Beilby and Steve Bradley – long-time promoters of ‘YK Soul’ who are delighted to be returning to the decks after almost a decade’s absence from the local Soul scene.
Known for their across-the-board selections, Steve and Nick’s hugely successful YK Soul nights have been much missed and they are really looking forward to welcoming supporters and friends old and new to the dance floor.
They will also be joined by Avril Lee (aka Little Av), a York native and a long-standing stalwart of the Yorkshire Soul Scene, Av’s exquisite musical taste – and her determination in tracking down hidden gems – has gained her a sizeable reputation with collectors and dancers alike.
The fourth DJ will be Jonny Crawshaw, who can often be found playing a wide range of musical styles in support or headline slots at The Crescent – most notably The Escape Club which seems to span most genres in a single evening! Johnny can also be found hosting ‘Soul Provision’ at The Golden Ball where he has played since 2014.
The Sheriff of York, Fiona Fitzpatrick said, “I am delighted to announce this event as the final fundraising event of our year in office.
“I am a huge soul music fan and am excited that the four DJ hosts will be showcasing their talents to put on a great event at the Crescent that all will enjoy – and I look forward to hitting the dancefloor!”
Tickets for Sheriff’s Soul Night start from £8 and are available via The Crescent’s website. There are also ticket options for the low/unwaged and for an extra charity donation.
