Celebrations were in order for Shed Seven fans across the city after the band secured their second number one album of the year.
‘Liquid Gold ‘claimed the top spot in the UK album charts on Friday (4 October), following on from their early 2024 number one with ‘A Matter of Time’.
Amongst the many congratulations, York LNER staff publicly shared a special message to the band at York Station
Published for all to see on the York Station electronic departure boards, the message read:
“Congrats from LNER to Shed Seven on their UK Official No.1 Album! The first band from York to hit the top!
“The band’s second No.1 album of 2024!”
Although an unlikely pairing, LNER and Shed Seven actually have more in common than just well wishes.
The band, formed in 1990, took their name from a numbered railway shed outside of York Station.
LNER shared a photo of the information board on X, stating: “At LNER we love local, so we’d like to congratulate York locals @shedseven on this week’s UK Official No.1 Album!
“The band made history as the first York band to hit #1 and join a small, elite group of artists such as Queen and Adele in achieving 2 #1 albums in a calendar year!”
Shed Seven jokingly replied, “Ha ha – thanks! For all the times you’ve had us to London and back etc we’ll forgive you for the occasional delay ;)”
Shed Seven’s ‘A Matter of Time’ album claimed the band their first number one in January.
This was almost 30 years on from their debut studio album ‘Change Giver’.
Their newest release, Liquid Gold, managed to bag number one last week, beating Bring Me The Horizon and Sabrina Carpenter.
Paul Banks, Shed Seven’s guitarist, told PA, “Can’t quite really believe that we’re standing here once again this year, but this is our second number one of 2024, which is just absolutely mind blowing.
“We are a self-managed band, we do all of this ourselves, but we would like to thank our amazing label, Cooking Vinyl… all our crew, and most of all, I want to thank all the fans who’ve been getting out there this week and getting behind the band.
“We’re immensely proud of us and you, and we can’t wait to get out on tour for the rest of the year and celebrate what an amazing year we’ve had.”
