It is already Britain’s prettiest street – but Shambles looks even more spectacular for Yorkshire Day.
Shops, offices and restaurants on York’s famous medieval street have come together to celebrate Yorkshire Day – August 1 – in flag-waving style..
If you visit Shambles throughout August you’ll be greeted with the colourful sight of Yorkshire Rose bunting hung overhead.

The decoration was organised through the Shambles Area Traders’ Association (SATA) and was funded through voluntary contributions from traders up and down the street.
“It is great to see the street come together to mark Yorkshire Day,” said Phil Pinder, chair of SATA and owner of Cuffs & Co.
“Over three quarters of traders in the street have so far made a contribution to the Yorkshire Rose bunting we have put up to decorate Shambles.”
Phil added:
Shopkeepers throughout the street hope that residents will be encouraged to come and visit the Shambles, as well as tourists, throughout Yorkshire Day and the rest of August.
