Seven years after a young man went missing after a night out in York, his mum has told YorkMix Radio that she still believes he will be found one day.

The last image taken of Rory Johnson Hatfield was a CCTV shot of him at 12.47am on Friday 20 November 2015, in the City Mills area of the city.

Since then, no one has seen or heard from Rory.

Liz Johnson says she is doing her best to get on with life because she knows that is what her son would want her to do.

She also told YorkMix Radio that they were looking at talking to the media in Ireland because that she says might be the sort of place where they may find answers.

The police say they would still like to hear from anyone who knows anything about the events of 20th November 2015. The investigation is still open. One theory is that Rory fell into the River Ouse which was in flood at the time.

Can you help find Rory?

Liz, who lives near Blackpool, says: “Obviously, my life hasn’t been the same since Rory went away. I miss him every day.

“I actually missed every day when he was working in Skipton. He is my son and we spoke regularly and I saw him regularly.

“But I have started to go out again and try and get back to being a bit sociable. Because I know that is what Rory would want.

“It would be the last thing that he would want for everybody that he loves and cares about to live life on hold

“(Missing him) It will never ever go away. But I also do believe that Rory is still out there.

“So that is my positivity and that will never leave me.

“I also have fantastic friends and family around me as well who have supported me for the last seven years and who love Rory to bits as well.”

Rory Knew York well

Five years missing: Rory Johnson Hatfield

On the night of 19 November 2015, Rory, then aged 29, was having a night out in York, a city that he loved and knew well.

He was staying at the York Central Travelodge on Piccadilly. His friend last saw him when he left the hotel at 12.15am.

He was then pictured on the CCTV cameras in Tower Street at 12.39am. Eight minutes later there was another sighting of Rory in the City Mills area.

After that he simply vanished without a trace.

While in the Postern Gate Wetherspoons pub he met a male hotel guest and their father.

At around midnight he returned to the hotel with the two men and left fifteen minutes later with one of the men. It was assumed they went back into town to another pub, but this has never been confirmed.

After his disappearance, the police underwater search unit scoured the river. York Rescue Boat have also carried out regular searches. But no sign of him has ever been found.

If you have any information surrounding Rory’s disappearance please contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting reference 12150207141.

Liz Johnson told us that the family is in touch with the media in Ireland now.

She said her cousin had worked in a remote part of the country so the way of life and the geography of Ireland was well known to the wider family.

Is it possible that there may be a lead there?

“I know because I read it all the time that men go missing and a lot of the time it’s because they can’t deal with their lifes and what’s going on.

“So I HAVE to look at every aspect of the wheres and the whys.

“If Rory has gone away for any reason I have to explore every avenue, you have to keep digging and digging.
