Firefighters tackled a fierce blaze at a York flat this afternoon (Wednesday, 17 March).
Witnesses saw fire and smoke pouring out of the window of a flat in Fossway.
Crews from York, Acomb and Huntington were sent to the scene at 1.32pm, including the turntable ladder.
Station watch manager Andy White told YorkMix: “We’ve been called out this afternoon to a property fire.
“We found a well-developed fire.
“We’ve worked with the police and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to conduct rescues and extinguish the fire.
“The appropriate care and support to residents that remain in the building has been provided and the investigation’s ongoing.”
Neighbouring residents were evacuated. After putting out the flames, firefighters searched the building, and it was confirmed all people were accounted for.

Fossway was closed between the Montrose Avenue and Pottery Lane junctions while the emergency services did their work.
The last fire engine departed 4pm, but a fire investigation officer remained at the scene.
North Yorkshire Police said earlier: “Emergency services are working at the scene of a fire in a property on Fossway and members of the public are urged to avoid the area.
