One man died in a crash between a bus and a car today (Saturday, 29 June).
A white Tesla Model 3 car and a blue and white double decker bus collided on the B1224 Wetherby Road, close to the junction with the A1237, at around 9.20am.
Sadly, a passenger in the Tesla, a 31-year-old man from the Newcastle area, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His family have been informed and are receiving support.
The driver of the Tesla, a 32-year-old man from the Teesside area, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Two air ambulances were despatched to the scene.
A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesperson said four people were taken to hospital.
One was taken to the major trauma centre at Leeds General Infirmary and three were taken to York Hospital.
The ambulance service were called at 9.22am and deployed three ambulances, two air ambulances and its hazardous area response team.
Three other passengers in the Tesla and the driver of the bus were treated at hospital for minor injuries.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from York, Acomb and Tadcaster responded to a report of a two-vehicle RTC involving a bus and a Tesla car.
“Crews worked with paramedics to extricate 2 casualties from the car who were transported to hospital. Crews made the vehicles and scene safe and left the incident in the hands of the police.”
The B1224 road closure remained in place until 5.25pm.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Witnesses to the collision or anyone with relevant dashcam footage are urged to come forward without delay if they have not done so already.
“We also want to hear from anyone who recalls seeing either the white Tesla car or the blue and white double decker bus in the lead up to the incident.”

Earlier North Yorkshire Police issued this statement: “Emergency services are currently dealing with a serious collision on the A1237 York ring road in the Rufforth area of the city which happened just before 9.30am on Saturday.





“The road closure is on the B1224 Wetherby road towards Rufforth.
“The scene is expected to remain closed for several hours.
“Motorists are urged to avoid the area and follow the diversions until further notice.”

Witnesses say the Yorkshire Air Ambulances landed at Rufforth Airfield.
