A long stretch of the road is shut as a result.
Crash location
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Diversions are being put in place and we request that motorists please avoid travelling on this route.
“The road is likely to remain closed for some time.”
The crash happened at around 3.39am.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from Malton responded to a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision in which the car collided with a tree.
“Crews assisted ambulance crews and made the vehicle safe and before providing lighting to assist police. The incident was left in the hands of the police.”
The AA reports: “The road is closed due to crash on A64 both ways between Mains Lane (Barton Hill Crossroads) and A169 (Old Malton roundabout). The closure has now been extended to Old Malton.”
Road users say traffic is being diverted past Castle Howard but some trucks are getting stuck at the archways adding to the problems.
