The A1M has partially reopened after the serious crash that closed it at one of North Yorkshire’s busiest junctions, causing gridlock.
It was shut at 12.30am after a collision between a VW Golf and a lorry following a police chase.
At the time, North Yorkshire Police said: “Please avoid the A64 and the A1(M) at junction 44 (Bramham) – roads are closed following a collision at about 12.30am.
“Closures are expected to be in place for some time, so please check local travel advice and plan your journey accordingly.”
At 12.07pm, National Highways Yorkshire said: “The A1M has reopened south at J44 A64 following the serious collision this morning.
“Lane 3 (of 3) currently remains closed south to complete the clear up operation. Preparations are being made to reopen north.
“Severe delays currently remain in both directions.”
The incident caused long tailbacks on both the A1M and the A64.
Emergency services were called to the collision at 12.34am this morning (Friday).
National Highways Yorkshire gave an update at 7.11am: “The A1M remains closed in both directions at J44 A64 following a serious collision overnight.
“There are currently long delays on approach adding at least 45 minutes to normal journey times.
“The carriageway is expected to remain closed through the morning.”
North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said crews from Tadcaster, Garforth and Killingbeck responded to reports of a serious single vehicle road traffic collision at the junction.
“Crews assisted other agencies at the scene with first aid and lighting.”
