The A64 has reopened after a serious crash this morning (Thursday).
The westbound carriageway was shut for more than four hours from Tadcaster to its junction with the A1M.
The crash happened shortly before 3am near the A1M junction.
North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said a flat bed truck had come off the road, and come to rest down an embankment.
Fire crews from Tadcaster, York and Acomb helped the police and paramedics with first aid and scene safety.
A service spokesperson said: “The male driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital via road ambulance.”
National Highways worked with police to get the road reopened.
It announced at 7.18am: “This incident is now clear, and the A64 westbound is now OPEN westbound between A162 Tadcaster and the A1M J44 following the earlier collision.
“There are no significant delays in the area. Thanks for your patience whilst the road was closed.”
Earlier, Sgt Paul Cording of North Yorkshire Police said on X: “We are working with National Highways Yorkshire to get the road open as soon as possible but please seek an alternative route until recovery is complete.”
