The A1(M) has reopened following a serious collision this evening (Sunday).
Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway just south of junction 49 (A168/Dishforth) at around 5pm.
The air ambulance was called to the scene.
Both carriageways between junctions 48 (Boroughbridge) and 49 were closed. The southbound side re-opened quite soon afterwards open.
But the northbound carriageway didn’t reopen till about 6.30pm, while police cleared the scene and carried out a collision investigation.
Motorists were facing delays of more than an hour at one stage.
Police say they will release more details about the incident later.
