A pedestrian was badly hurt in an accident which closed a main road into York on Saturday afternoon (March 24).

The accident happened on Tadcaster Road, close to the Horseshoe, shortly before 3pm.

North Yorkshire Police said a 40-year-old woman from London was crossing the road when she was in collision with a blue Vauxhall Astra being driven by a York man, 69.

She suffered a fractured pelvis and lower back and was taken by road ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary

The accident closed the road at the traffic lights near to the Cross Keys pub and Holiday Inn.

Traffic was diverted from the area. Outbound traffic could get no further than Knavesmire Road, while inbound traffic was diverted from the Askham Bar roundabout.

The road reopened shortly before 5pm.

Witnesses are asked to contact police, details below.
