A stretch of the A1 was closed by a serious accident this morning (Monday, 5 April).
The southbound carriageway of the A1(M), between Junction 48 (Boroughbridge) and Junction 47 (Allerton Park) was completely closed for several hours after the single vehicle accident at 6.25am.
The entry slip road at J48 was also closed.
All lanes reopened at about 9.45am.
The AA reported that initially lane one was closed due to a lorry tyre change. But then an accident stopped all traffic.
Diversions were put in place, but long queues of traffic built up.
North Yorkshire Police said: “Officers are appealing for anyone who saw a Black VW estate car with hazard lights on and was stationary, on the southbound carriageway between 5am and 6.30am, to come forward.
“Officers also request that anyone with any dashcam footage from the area at that time gets in touch.”
