Following on from the success of last year’s debut, ‘SconeFest’ opened its doors today at York’s iconic 14th-century dining hall, Bedern Hall.
Running from the 14th to the 16th of August from 11:00am – 3:00pm each day, this will be the city’s second annual celebration.
You can expect delicious scones, lots of them, as well as glasses of bubbly, hot drinks, a stall selling local produce, and a relaxing environment to bring up the jam vs. cream debate.

This year’s festival also features a new mystery flavour scone each day, with the chance to win an afternoon tea for two at the hall if you guess the flavour correctly. Alongside the mystery flavours, classic scones such as cheese, fruit, and lavender are also on offer.

Roger Lee, Director at Bedern Hall, said: “Our goal is to keep Bedern Hall vibrant and relevant, showcasing its mediaeval charm while creating new traditions like ‘SconeFest.’ With Bernadette baking for us, we want everyone to sample her delicious scones.”
Bernadette’s famous scones have built up a dedicated following, with her Christmas pudding scone reaching viral audiences after being praised by food enthusiast Sarah Merker.
The visitor and volunteer engagement officer at the hall, Morgan, spoke to YorkMix about the event: “we’re really excited to be highlighting our Baker who makes all of these scones in house, it’s lovely weather, so it’s a great chance to come and sit outside on our on our terrace, enjoy the nice breeze, have a lovely scone and soak in the atmosphere.”
Visitors can pop in at any point throughout the day to indulge in one of Britain’s favourite foods. SconeFest welcomes everyone, with free entry and no need to book a slot.
