It’s a funny old life being a Hollywood movie starlet. One minute you’re hobnobbing with the glamour set in downtown LA – the next you’re stuck in a gloomy alley off Coney Street in York.
This wasn’t the real Scarlett Johansson, of course, but a graffiti mural of The Avengers actress.
It was created by artist Wim on the exterior wall of Office on Coney Street – with the shop’s permission – and commissioned by Dave Taylor, marketing manager at near neighbour City Screen York.
The artwork publicises Johansson’s new film Under The Skin which comes to City Screen from Friday, March 14.
“I’ve also arranged a deal with Waterstones on High Ousegate, who are soon to become near-neighbours of City Screen, as they’re moving into the old Republic store on Coney Street soon,” said Dave.
Anyone seeing Under The Skin at City Screen can take their cinema ticket stub to Waterstones and obtain a £2 discount on Michel Faber’s novel of the same name.
In the film, Johansson plays Laura, an alien driving round Scotland in a van preying on lonely men. Striking in black wig and mangy fur coat, she is the dark heart of a movie which took ten years to make and has been described as a masterpiece.
