One of York’s floodgates has failed to deploy during the latest floods.
A gate at the bottom of Marygate has failed, meaning sandbags needed to be brought in to protect properties.
The Environment Agency is aware of the problem.
A spokesperson for the agency said: “We were aware of issues with the floodgate near Marygate in York before the arrival of the wet weather over the New Year.
“Due to the forecast, we had already prepared sandbags and organised additional workforce to put a temporary barrier in place should it be needed.
“This was lifted into position on Tuesday 31 December.
“We are currently working on a longer term solution to return to gate to full working order.”
