Castle Howard has announced it will close tomorrow (Friday) as Storm Éowyn sweeps in.
The stately home near York says the site will be unsafe due to the high winds forecast to last through the day.
The closure will include the gardens, Skelf Island Adventure Playground, car park, courtyard, ticket office, farm shop, coffee shop, Courtyard Café and garden centre.
In a statement, Castle Howard said: “Please do not travel to us.
“The safety of our visitors and staff is our top priority, and we have deemed the site unsafe due to the high wind speed forecast. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
Storm Éowyn is forecast to bring dangerous conditions to northern England tomorrow. Much of North Yorkshire is covered by an amber warning for wind, while York and Selby have a yellow warning.
Forecasters are warning of flying debris resulting in danger to life, as well as “very dangerous” driving conditions because of fallen trees.
There may also be power cuts, damage to buildings and homes, and delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights.
Train companies have already urged people not to travel tomorrow – more details here.
