A York park is closed today (Wednesday, 26 July).
Rowntree Park is shut to the public. According to a post on the Friends Of Rowntree Park Facebook page, it is due to concerns about the water levels.
The posts says: “Not something I expect to write in July, but… Rowntree Park is closed Wednesday 26th July.
“The council state it’s due to the ‘high water level and we are constantly reviewing the level and will open it when possible’.
“If you are booked into an event, please check with the provider.”
The York Explore Cafe remains open with access from Richardson Street.
The park regularly closes when the Ouse overflows. But there is no flooding now or imminently.
A flood alert issued earlier this week has been cancelled, and river levels have dropped to 0.8m today – the top of the normal range is about a metre higher than that.
In reply to one commenter, the Friends of Rowntree Park said it was “all linked to lakes backing up and not draining into the beck”.
