This was the scene on Ouse Bridge in York this evening as roadworks brought delays on a key city route.
Temporary traffic lights have been installed on the bridge as part of work being undertaken by Northern Gas Networks which is due to last for several weeks.
Workers were digging up the road next to the Spar on the bridge, near to the junction with North Street and Skeldergate.
The four-way temporary traffic lights are to allow single-file traffic on the road.
However, a stretch of Skeldergate is set to close completely from Monday, 23 January.
The busy road will be shut between the bridge and Fetter Lane until 10 February. Diversions north and southbound will be put in place.
It may impact a number of bus services. Many buses use Skeldergate – so much so that residents have been campaigning for change, saying that the current situation is an accident waiting to happen.
