The first flooding of the autumn is expected in York tomorrow.
Heavy downpours this week mean the River Ouse is rising.
Forecasts from the Environment Agency say the river will overtop its banks tomorrow (Friday, 27 September).
The Viking Recorder, which measures the river in central York, is predicting the Ouse rises to 4.39m by the end of Friday night.
The top of the normal range is 1.9m.
This is still only a prediction, and there are no flood alerts issued by the agency as yet.
If it did reach that level it would close riverside paths, and probably Tower Gardens, Rowntree Park and St George’s Field car park would be hit too.
But thanks to York’s flood defences, the rest of the city would be unaffected.
It was during the floods of 2000 that the river reached its highest recorded level, at 5.4m.
