Members of the public and staff from City Cruises sprang into action after a woman was spotted in the river in York this afternoon.
The woman went into the Ouse from Skeldergate Bridge.
Staff from City Cruises piloted two of the company’s blue boats to help the woman.
They were guided to her by police on the river bank.
Then, two men with life-rings were seen in the water. They swam over to the woman and, together with the boat crews, helped to get her out of the river to safety.
Two fire engines, two ambulances and the York Rescue Boat were all scrambled to the scene.
Paramedics treated the woman on South Esplanade before she was put in an ambulance and taken to hospital.

A police officer at the scene said she was going to be OK.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Emergency services were alerted just before 2.30pm on Tuesday after a woman entered the River Ouse in York from Skeldergate Bridge.
“Two members of the public entered the water to help bring the woman to safety with assistance of a river cruiser and a smaller vessel. The York Rescue Boat was also in attendance.
“The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment where she was later detained under the Mental Health Act.”

And staff went into action again to help six people who ended in the water after two boats collided.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews went to reports of three people in the River Ouse in York.
“All three people were rescued and left in the hands of ambulance crews.”
