A new bus service launches in York tomorrow (Thursday).
Flixbus, which says its digital approach is ‘revolutionising’ bus travel, will run services from the Memorial Gardens on Leeman Road to Leeds Kirkgate and Manchester Shudehill Interchange.
It operates dynamic pricing – also known as surge pricing. A trip from York to Leeds tomorrow afternoon is priced at £7.99, including a £1 service fee. Setting off at 1.30pm, it is timetabled to arrive at 2.20pm.
If you take the 1.30pm York service and go all the way to Manchester, it costs a pound less – £6.99, with the £1 service fee.
You can also pay for extras. A 99p fee means you can select your seat. Or pay £3 to travel ‘neighbour free’, and have a double seat to yourself.
Each passenger is allowed two pieces of luggage up to 20kg, plus one piece of carry-on luggage up to 7kg. You can pay additional fees for more luggage.
The service is on a new 49-seat coach with mobile device charging, and “free, fast, unlimited wi-fi”.
