Revealed: York’s most expensive streets to buy a house

York has seen property prices shoot up over recent years.

And although there are now signs that the housing market in the city is cooling, getting on the housing ladder is extremely challenging.

According to RightMove, the average property price is £342,291.

But within the city there are property hotspots, and not-so-hotspots.

Now property market analysis specialist Varbes has published a report that provides an in-depth look into the priciest streets in every part of York.

According to its research, Fenwicks Lane in Fulford is the most expensive street, with the average property worth an estimated £1,357,000 or £501 per square foot.

A Varbes spokesperson said: “Over the past year, York’s housing market has shown resilience with a slight overall increase in property values.

“However, in recent months there has been a downtrend echoing patterns across the UK, a ripple effect caused by rising interest rates impacting affordability.

“The city’s housing landscape is marked by its diversity. The cost of a typical home across the city suburbs and surrounding villages varies between a modest £180,000 to £600,000 or more. This wide range reflects the array of options available for potential buyers.”

Valuations are calculated by the company’s automated valuation model, which uses sold house prices published by HM Land Registry.
