It’s only been empty since the middle of January.
But plans are already in for the former Boots Opticians store on Parliament Street.
The shop could soon be home to a Knoops.
What is a Knoops? It’s a place that sells ‘expertly crafted chocolate drinks’.
German founder Jens Knoop opened his first shop in Rye, East Sussex, in 2013. Now there are 15 shops, mostly in the south of England.
But the company is expanding quickly, with stores planned for Edinburgh and Leeds in the coming months, not to mention York.
According to the Knoops website: “The Knoops concept is based around our carefully curated percentage menu which offers chocolates to suit every taste and mood.
“This process is simple; choose your chocolate %, milk, and extra flavours like sea salt, orange zest or chilli to be made into a hot chocolate, milkshake or iced chocolate.”
The shops also sell chocolate flakes so you can make the drinks at home.
According to plans submitted to City of York Council, the York Knoops would have room for 17 people sitting at the tables, as well as offering takeaway drinks.
The Boots Opticians store was one of a number to close in York as part of the chemists’ major restructuring programme.
The stores in Kings Square and Clifton have already shut. A branch in East Parade, Heworth, is earmarked for closure on 9 March.
