It is probably York’s longest-awaited restaurant opening.
Miller & Carter first put forward plans to open a steakhouse in the former Crown Post Office nearly five years ago.
But the fit-out on Lendal is approaching completion. And we finally have an opening date for the restaurant: it will serve its first meals on Friday, 28 June.
A Miller & Carter spokesperson told YorkMix: “The new steakhouse will create 55 jobs in the local area, 40 of the jobs will be front of house with the other 15 being kitchen staff.
“The restaurant will have 140 covers with a bar, seating 14-16 people which will be used as a holding area for guests.
“This will also be the first Miller & Carter in the York area.”
If you’re interested in a job with the restaurant, you are asked to call 07957 505078.
The building operated as a Post Office for 135 years. It closed in April 2019 when services were moved inside WH Smith on Coney Street.
Miller & Carter applied for planning permission to convert the Lendal premises into a restaurant in November 2019.
Then the pandemic intervened. The company had hoped to be open a year ago, so this month’s opening is well overdue.
Miller & Carter is part of the large hospitality chain Mitchells & Butlers, which runs 1,700 restaurants in the UK with brands including Harvester, Toby Carvery and All Bar One.
