City of York Council is encouraging residents to enter a brand new touch rugby competition ahead of the Rugby League World Cup which starts this week.
City of York Council, in partnership with Energise and York City Knights, will host a Touch Rugby League World Cup tournament at Energise on Sunday 24 November, just one week before the World Cup final, and is inviting teams of six to sign up and take part.
Councillor Sonja Crisp, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism said: “I am delighted that York is embracing Rugby League as the World Cup draws ever closer.
“This is a great competition for residents to take part in and is open to all as touch rugby is non contact and is played mixed gender.
“As well as a great day of sport, all entrants will get a free guest pass to Energise swimming pool and the winning team will also receive eight tickets to the Rugby League World Cup final which promises to be a great showcase event.”
Entries to the six-a-side competition cost just £12 and allows for a maximum of two substitutes. Registration closes on Monday 18 November. To register, teams should contact Dean Sharp from City of York Council’s Sport and Active Leisure Team on 01904 553377 or email him by clicking here.
