On Tuesday, 19 November, staff, and residents gathered to celebrate the fifth anniversary of New Lodge, a vibrant community that opened its doors in 2019.
New Lodge is unique in combining a residential care home and extra care apartments, enabling residents to stay within the same supportive community as their needs change.
Since its opening, New Lodge has welcomed many residents, creating a vibrant community with activities, social events, and strong connections to the wider New Earswick community.
Over the past five years, it has become a place where residents and staff have shared many happy memories and celebrated special occasions, making New Lodge much more than just a home.
On this special day, residents reflected on their journeys, including memories of moving from Red Lodge, and enjoyed reminiscing together over a slice of cake.
One resident, who has been part of New Lodge since its beginning shared their fond connection to the community.
“As they dug the foundations, the pile of earth grew bigger, and I remember a tall sunflower standing proudly on the top of it. Then the new building rose behind it. We saw the roof go on, the glass going into the empty windows, catching the sunlight so it looked like it was already occupied.
A friend of mine looked out and said: “That’s mine and when we moved in, it was. From the start, there were activities to help us settle in and since then, we have welcomed many new friends. It’s a true community and I love living here.”
Lucy Atkinson, Registered Care Manager, who also transitioned from Red Lodge to New Lodge, reflected on the milestone: “ New Lodge has become a true community over the past five years. It’s a place where residents and staff support each other and share meaningful moments. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together and look forward to seeing this community continue to grow and thrive.”
Kate Thompson, Head of Extra Care, also shared her thoughts: “It’s been a great pleasure to celebrate the fifth anniversary of New Lodge. This community has grown from strength to strength, thanks to the dedication of our incredible teams and the wonderful residents who make New Lodge their home.
