A car went into the river in York this afternoon – sparking a major rescue operation.
Emergency services went to the scene of the incident on Skeldergate Bridge in York after the vehicle entered the River Ouse.
It was reported at 4.30pm today (Wednesday, 23 September).
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson confirmed that “one person from the car is safe, however, it is unconfirmed how many people were in the vehicle when it entered the water”.
The fire service rescue boat patrolled the Ouse, and the Yorkshire and Humber Marine and Underwater Search Unit was brought to the scene.
Checks took place ensure no one else was involved.
By about 9.40pm the road had reopened and the emergency services left the scene.
