Emergency services and York Rescue Boat united to save a man who fell into the river in York last night (Friday).
Fire crews from York and Acomb were called to the River Foss, near Tower Street, at 10.49pm. A man had fallen about 18ft into the water.
The man had managed to get back to the embankment but had suffered a suspected broken leg.
The York Rescue Boat team on duty were called in. When they arrived, firefighters had managed to stabilise the casualty on a ledge.
A spokesperson for the charity said: “Our team deployed two swift water rescue technicians into the river along with an inflatable raft where they were then able to transport the casualty down stream to a safe extraction point.”
There, paramedics put the man on a stretcher where he was taken to a waiting ambulance.
“We wish the casualty has a speedy recovery,” the spokesperson said.
