Relief as missing boy, 7, found in York after five hour disappearance

A seven-year-old boy went missing for five hours on Tuesday, sparking a police hunt to find him.

The boy disappeared near the River Foss at 4.30pm on Tuesday (June 30).

Residents, particularly in the Huntington and New Earswick areas, were urged to keep a lookout for the boy.

He was wearing a grey T shirt and black trunks.

York Rescue Boat planned to deploy a search team starting at St George’s Field car park at 9.45pm.

But then came through the news everyone was hoping for:

He had been found safe and well in New Earswick at about 9.30pm. Always good to report a happy ending.

North Yorkshire police said on Facebook:

A truly breathtaking response to our missing boy.

He has been found locally in a field and he is being cared for by officers and returned back to parents. He is completely unharmed.

Thank you to each and everyone of you who has helped, supported and shared. You well and truly deserve cake tonight.
