A rail worker from Pocklington is £125K richer after a fabulous run on the ultimate TV quiz show.
Adrian Field took the prize in an episode of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire aired last night on ITV 1.
He won his place in the Millionaire hot-seat after answering a qualifying question about fictional sisters in the fastest time – just 4.57 seconds.
After swiftly navigating to £1,000, Adrian chatted to host Jeremy Clarkson. Jeremy said they shared a lot of traits – both lived in Yorkshire and Notting Hill, both loved classic cars, both were interested in the supersonic plane Concorde, and both support Chelsea.
Watched on by partner Linda in the studio audience, he used two lifelines on the £16,000 question, asking both the host and the audience for their answer to the question: “Which of these football clubs did not win the Premier League in the 2010s?”
They both chose Arsenal – and that was the right answer (Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea were the other options).
On his £64K question he phoned his friend, Kevin – one of the Eggheads from TV – to ask what the term ‘nidification’ meant in the natural world?
Kevin immediately answered ‘nests’ – and it was the right answer.
He won £125K by confidently choosing Ecuador as the only one out of a list of countries that didn’t share a border with Brazil.
At this stage, Jeremy asked what he would do with the next prize pot, a quarter of a million. Adrian said: “We want to go on holiday to Australia this year, and it would be nice to turn left rather than turning right!”
The £250K question was: In Greek mythology, which of these creatures was Heracles specifically tasked with capturing alive, as part of his Twelve Labours?”
The answers were:
- A – Stymphalian birds
- B – Cerberus
- C – Lernaean Hydra
- D – Nemean Lion
Adrian thought it might be D – but when he used his 50-50, the Nemean Lion disappeared. So he opted out, and took the £125,000.
Jeremy said that was enough for a “hell of holiday” and called him a “brother from another mother”. And Adrian exited the studio with a hug from Linda.
Do you know the answer to the £250K question? It was…
…B – Cerberus!
