A man in Selby was arrested for multiple driving offences after failing to stop for police.
The incident took place last night (Thursday) at 10:30pm, when a blue Ford Mondeo caught the attention of North Yorkshire Police roads policing officers in Selby town centre.
As the driver noticed the police behind him, he failed to stop and headed out of Selby towards Osgodby.
The driver then continued to exceed the speed limit and drove through crossroads without checking for oncoming traffic.
Further police units flooded the area and a stinger site was set up on the A19.
A firearms officer then deflated the vehicle’s tyres which helped bring it to a stop a short time later on Main Street, Riccall.
Multiple police units surrounded the vehicle and the driver was detained.
The man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for the police, resisting arrest, dangerous driving and driving with no insurance or license. He currently remains in police custody.
Traffic Constable Matt Harvey from North Yorkshire Police said, “This behaviour is unacceptable and I’m grateful that no members of the public were hurt, and we have one under arrest
“Every night we are out and about patrolling the 6,000 miles of roads in the county.
“Although we can’t be everywhere we could be anywhere, and all our teams work together to be relentless in our approach to stop motorists who flout the law on North Yorkshire’s roads.”
