York’s most colourful charity fundraiser has surpassed himself – by raising £3,025 for the people of Ukraine.
Purpleman raised the cash with another epic slo-mo walk up and down Shambles in York.
The money has been sent to the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
Like all his fundraising, it was about “turning a negative into a positive and trying to demonstrate that unconditional love is stronger than hate,” Purpleman told YorkMix.
“York and her visitors delivered again. The outpouring of love for Ukraine was beautiful to feel. Hugging and sharing tears with fleeing families, Ukrainians that already live here and hardened military men was powerful and moving.
“I’ve met several war veterans who cried, other vets who were on their way to fight, Ghandian activists and advocates of non-violence, monks, and people of all opinions. Personally I favour non-violence and forgiveness.”
A trio of Ukrainian women even serenaded Purpleman with a song in their own language on Shambles.
The extraordinary fundraiser also donated £450 to the York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity, to help the doctors, nurses and other heroes on the health frontline.
That comes on top of the £10K he raised for the charity last autumn.
Purpleman said: “Above the clouds the sun in always shining, so let’s focus on everything that is good in the world and strive to make things better. Everything starts with a thought so we change the world by changing our thoughts.
“Thank you York and her visitors for the love.”
