Police have revealed details of a pursuit in York last night (Wednesday).
It began when someone reported hearing glass being smashed – which turned out to be a burglarly at a pub.
Officers then tracked down the van being driven by the suspects as it headed out of York.
The scene of the operation
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We had to use a stinger – a device that punctures tyres – to bring the vehicle to a safe stop near Hazelwood Castle on the A64.
“Two men were arrested on suspicion of burglary.
“The driver also blew more than twice the legal drink drive limit when we tested him at the roadside. He’s also been locked up on suspicion of drink driving.”
Given that it began with a pub break-in, the police said that “we called time on these two suspects”.
